Blog Journal #8

I enjoyed this assignment for a few reasons. The website was easy to dissect and easy on the eyes, making things minimalistic and simple. I liked designing different pages and menu bars, but I wouldn't say I liked all of the requirements for a pass. I felt like some of them were unnecessary and unrealistic, like the two pages of links and information for parents and kids. Out of all of my middle and high school classes, I never had full pages of links for extra help or information, and I don't think many kids did. However, I enjoyed educationally designing a platform for kids and learned how to do new things through Weebly. My link can be found here.

I was not a very big fan of Diigo because it looked like old technology, not minimalistic, but instead jumbled together and hard to navigate. I learned how to highlight and post notes on Diigo, which could be helpful in a classroom with a group discussion or group project. I will not be using this for professional efforts because I found it hard to navigate. Still, I could use it to find groups of my interest, such as educational groups or k-12 groups for discussions - similar to Twitter.

Teachers have evolved from chalkboards and paper to whiteboards to personal computers and online assignments. Over time, pretty much everything has turned online. Over the past 100 years, we have advanced very fast with technology, which requires teachers to stay updated with all new technology development, resulting in professional development. This is an example of a site you could use to stay informed of technology trends in education. You can easily sign up for many newsletters that keep you updated on new software and technology coming out for the educational system.

  1. Hey Chloe, your website looks great. Your overall site design is very organized and easy to navigate which I really enjoy. All of the information looks great and the image placement is on point. Lots of contrast on each tab of the site, repetition of fonts is great, alignment is organized, and everything is in the correct proximity.

  2. Hey Chloe! I think you did a great job at putting this teacher website together. You were very successful at following the CRAP website design principles. The contrast of the black text across the white background helps with the readability of all of your content on your website. The bright images also help to create contrast and help to make your page more visually interesting. The repetition of the same fonts, sizes, and colors of the text helps to make your website as a whole look more cohesive and professionally done. The alignment of similar tests and images near each other and on the same lines help to make the pages look more organized and helps to make the sections look more divided and easy to find. Then, the proximity of like items allows for the overall organization of the website to show through as it places like items together and spaces out each group of items. Overall, you did a great job with this website!

Blog Journal #9

Distance learning has never been my favorite. It has its pros and cons, but overall, I have found that I enjoy in-person classes more. One thing I like about this distance learning class is that all of the assignments are posted on Monday. I can get all my weekly assignments out of the way early, so I don't have to worry about them affecting my downtime or weekend. One thing I dislike about distance learning is it makes it difficult to ask questions and have a connection with the instructor. I came from a very small school, and I had personal relationships with all of my teachers, and taking a class online can easily prevent that from happening. One thing I would do to improve the experience of distance learning is set up meetings with my students - not just office hours but a required meeting at the beginning of the year or semester to just chat and get to know each other, so my students could get a sense that I am a real person willing to help and talk.            OER resour

EME2040 First Blog Post

Welcome to my first blog post for EME2040!     My name is Chloe Secunda, and I am so excited to be in this class. I am a freshman here at FSU majoring in Elementary Education, and I live in Bryan Hall on campus with my one roommate and two suitemates. I was born in Hawaii but moved to Florida when I was three. I love the beach so much since I basically grew up on it, so being in Tallahassee is a bit difficult for me, but even so, I still love it and all the people I've met so far. My goal after graduation is to be a teacher for third grade at the school I graduated from in Vero Beach. It is a small private Jk-12 school on the river and has the most family feel out of any school I have ever seen. I hope this class will help me be a better teacher in the future.      The high school that I graduated from was very technologically advanced, with Apple TVs and projectors in every room, also requiring MacBooks for every student since almost all of our work was done on the computer.
